Book Club
There is only one prerequisite to attend the St. Andrew’s book club – you must love reading! That is the one thing book club members agree on, although their opinions on each book can vary greatly.
Book Club provides a chance to share our stories together. We choose our titles for the upcoming year at a meeting where everyone has a chance to make suggestions. The club focuses on fiction, but we include a non-fiction title each year. A young adult selection is chosen in honour of the late Mary Woodbury, the novelist and poet who started the club to share her love of reading with kindred spirits. Our book club selections are almost always available at the Edmonton Public Library.
Members of the club take turns sponsoring a book and leading a discussion about it. It takes very little to get a good debate going with this group and we enjoy great fellowship as we share opinions. Sometimes, we invite a local author to speak to us.
Our meetings are held in the St. James Room at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month from September to November and January to May. We celebrate the end of the season in May with a potluck or pizza night and watch a film based on a novel.
Anyone is welcome at any time – come for the year, or drop in if we are discussing a favourite book of yours. Book club titles for the upcoming month are posted in the church bulletin. Join us for this evening of fellowship and fun!
